There is an appealing history to the Cambodia casinos that reside just over the dividing line from nearby Thailand, where casino betting is not permitted. Eight casinos are established in a generally tiny space in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia gambling dens is in a prime spot, a 3 to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular gambling locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai laborers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The amazing income accrued from the casinos ranges from $7.5 million to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a couple of limitations requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is required to be mainly Thai; although, investment sources are ambiguous. The borders are officially open from 0900 to 1700, and even though visas are apparently necessary to pass, there are methods and means around this, as is correct of most border crossings.

The first Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving only one gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary boat gambling hall, contains one hundred and fifty slot machines and sixty table games. The Naga river boat is open 24 hours with 42 tables of mini-baccarat, 4 tables of 21, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The 1st gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly opened. A total of one hundred and fifty slots and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machines and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred slot machine games and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and 96 table games, including 87 baccarat banque (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machine games and sixty six of the common gaming tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, again a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machines and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a multinational vacation and hotel compound that features many comforts in addition to the gambling hall, which houses ten thousand sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slot machines and 88 gaming tables.
